Most SAP consultants have now tried an AI chat app and come away with the same verdict: impressive, and useless for SAP, because it cannot see the system. Syntaai Labs closes that gap. You describe what you want checked, Labs builds an agent that can read SAP data, and you ask it questions in plain language. The whole thing takes about ten minutes, needs no code, and the free plan is enough to do everything in this article.
What you are actually building
An agent in Labs is a small, private service with a fixed set of tools. Each tool does one SAP job: list privileged users, find inactive accounts, run a segregation-of-duties check, show recent short dumps, list purchase orders waiting for release, and so on. The tools come from a library that already knows the real SAP transactions and the real S/4HANA tables behind them, so the AI never guesses an old ECC table name. Your agent is only ever a selection from that library plus any custom reports you add.
Two properties are fixed for every agent, whatever you choose:
- Read-only. No tool can create, change or delete anything in SAP.
- Logged. Every check the agent runs is recorded: who asked, what ran, when, on which system.
Step 1: Plan
After you sign in you are asked one question: what is your role? Security or GRC, Basis, FI, MM, SD, ABAP. Labs uses that to build a first agent for you from a role template, so you have something to ask within a minute of arriving. You can also start from a blank agent and describe the job in a sentence:
The chat that plans your agent is called Syntaai Agent. It picks the smallest set of tools that does the job, shows you which SAP transactions each tool covers, and asks when the request is ambiguous rather than guessing. If you name a table it does not recognise, it checks the data dictionary before accepting it.
Step 2: Build
Confirm the plan and Labs builds the agent. The build is not a spinner; it shows the real steps so you can see what was checked:
Plan checked
Every tool in the plan exists in the library and is allowed on your plan.
Safety checked
Your agent only reads SAP data, never changes it, and every check it runs is logged.
Saved as a version
Each build is versioned, so you can change the agent later without losing what worked.
Set as your agent
This is the agent your connection serves until you switch.
Server online, ready to connect
Your agent has its own private address.
Step 3: Ask
There are two ways to use the agent, and the first one needs nothing else installed.
Chat with it in the Studio. Switch the chat from Build to Chat and ask. Every answer shows the checks it ran, with the SAP transaction each check corresponds to, so you can see why the answer is what it is. If you ask something the agent has no tool for, it says so and offers to have Syntaai Agent add one, rather than inventing a result.
Use it in your AI chat app. Paste the agent's address into your chat app as a connector, and the same tools are available there. The daily question limit depends on your plan; the free plan has enough for a working session a day.
Good first questions, by role:
| Role | Ask your agent |
|---|---|
| Security | Who has SAP_ALL in this client, and when did they last log on? |
| Basis | What were the most common short dumps this week, and where should I start? |
| FI | Which suppliers do we owe the most in company code 8888? |
| MM | Which purchase orders are waiting for approval? Biggest first. |
| SD | Which sales orders have been delivered but not billed yet? |
What data you are practising on
The Labs cloud runs on a practice copy of around a hundred tables from an S/4HANA sandbox. It is realistic because it is real, with the personal data taken out: person-like user IDs are replaced with fictional ones, hosts and IPs are replaced, customers and suppliers are fictional, and there are no password hashes, address tables, e-mail, phone, bank or tax data. The build that produces it fails if a scan finds any of those. So you can practise security analysis on data that behaves like a production system without anyone's data being in it.
Skills: teach the agent a procedure
Once an agent works, you will find yourself asking it the same multi-step question each week. Skills capture that: a title, when to use it, the steps, which of the agent's tools each step uses, and what the output should look like. Ready-made skills exist for the common reviews, Syntaai Agent can draft one from a description, and you can edit them in the Studio. Skills run inside the same read-only, logged boundary as everything else.
Where this goes next
Practice data is where you learn. The same agent, unchanged, can then be deployed to your company's SAP BTP subaccount and connected to your own ECC or S/4HANA through your Cloud Connector. That is a paid-plan feature and the subject of the companion article below. The point of starting on practice data is that by the time you point the agent at production you already know exactly what it will and will not do.

Frequently asked questions
What do I need to start with Syntaai Labs?
A free Labs account. There is nothing to install and no code to write. You can chat with your agent in the Studio straight away, and optionally add it to your AI chat app as a connector.
Is Labs free?
Yes. The free plan includes one agent on practice data, the tool library, and Syntaai Agent to plan and build it. Paid plans add more agents, custom reports, and deployment to your own SAP BTP. Prices are on labs.syntaai.com.
What can an agent built in Labs do in SAP?
Read, only. Every tool in the library is read-only, limited to an allowed list of tables, and logged. No agent can create, change or delete anything in SAP.
What data does Labs practise on?
A practice copy of around a hundred tables from an S/4HANA sandbox with personal data removed: fictional user IDs, hosts, customers and suppliers, and no password hashes, addresses, e-mail, phone, bank or tax data. Security, Basis, FI, MM, SD and EWM scenarios are covered.
Can I run my Labs agent on my own SAP system?
Yes, on Pro and Business. The same agent deploys in one click to your SAP BTP subaccount and reads your ECC or S/4HANA through your Cloud Connector. Your own server and a pipeline template are coming soon.
